If Marina Matić's poems are a reflection of the soul titled "Odraz Duše" (Reflection of the Soul), previously published, ethereal and trembling in constant anticipation of turbulent love, imbued with apologetic sentiments, where she seeks repentance for sins she did not commit:
"I wait for the night to come
I wait to feel its velvety warmth
I wait for heavenly beings
Who will, in this night,
Protect us from all obstacles and cover us
I wait for you, my stranger, to color my night again..."
Her address to God in her poems is like true epitaphs, as if they were written by a very humble and devout monk, for she believes in the Holy Trinity, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit:
"I wait for you in this night to bring me back to life
To resurrect me and lift me up with you, my Lord
Come, Lord, and pour your grace upon me
Bathe me in your love
Renew my strength with your power and revive my fallen soul
Lord, my Lord..."
from the poem "Iscelitelj" (Healer) from the collection "Odraz Duše" (Reflection of the Soul).
In the cycle "Dodir žudnje" (Touch of Desire) in the collection "Sjaj tajne" (Glow of Mystery), the poetess has proven that free verse can express much more when it comes to love poetry. In her verses, the poetess daydreams about her unconventional loves. The uniqueness in her love poetry lies in the fact that she does not seek peaceful nights and tranquil souls, but rather desires nights soaked in storms and skies ablaze with purple sunsets.
Marina Matić perceives love not only in an erotic sense but also in terms of her spiritual love poured into prayers for the salvation of her people, as she expressed in the poem "Blagoslov Bogomajke" (Blessing of the Divine Mother). For example, the poem "Večnost" (Eternity) is filled with philosophical depth and is one of the finest in this collection. Through poetic words, the poetess demonstrates that faith as a concept of eternity and belief in divine revelation can save the world. Her poems that explore spirituality can be counted among the most beautiful poetic achievements in the realm of faith and spirituality. Notable among them are "Lepota" (Beauty), "Svetica" (Saint), "Život" (Life), "Pomoć" (Help), and others.
In her works, sensual love takes on a different, undefined meaning, addressed to an unnamed entity, whose touch she feels through the sounds of the world resonating in her soul. She believes in two concepts: "hope" and "love".
Within the cycle "Dodir žudnje" (Touch of Desire), there is highly passionate and erotically charged lyricism. Her eroticism in poetry never reaches its climax as it does in the works of Bora Stanković; rather, it smolders with apprehension and fears. When she writes about love, she is trembling, infused with melancholy, despair, and fears.
And so, this entire cycle of love poetry is written in an original poetic language, brimming with lyrical intonations, where Marina Matić's poetic talent shines through. It's as if she plays with words, creating new coinages in her poems, such as "Kožu mi nagoreva dubina glasa tvoga" (Your voice's depth burns my skin) and "Želim da te dosegnem i nalazim te u ukusu istopljenog šapata" (I want to reach you and find you in the taste of melted whispers). Words she employs in her poetry include restlessness, longing, yearning, solitude, and anxieties, among others. Her poetic lines are replete with metaphors and comparisons, as seen in the poem "Lažna ljubav" (False Love) and others.
In her descriptions of love, all emotions culminate in pain: "Tvoje reči, mekane k'o svila, tvoje reči, oružje su moje, tvoje reči, bolna rapsodija" (Your words, soft as silk, your words, they are my weapon, your words, a painful rhapsody). Marina Matić's poetry contains many unusual comparisons, such as "Mesečeva odora prosipa se po jatuku mom" (The moon's attire spills over my flock) and "Čekam da nebeski slikar kičicom povuče poslednji potez ove noći i dan po nebu rasprši" (I wait for the celestial painter to make the final stroke of this night with his brush and scatter the day across the sky).
It should be noted that when she speaks of love, the poetess constantly daydreams and indulges in fantasies. For instance, she describes how she came to her beloved all night, folding herself against his wings. Her love is permeated with memories and reminiscences, which adds additional value to Marina Matić's love poetry in this collection. Her yearning in premonitions, akin to lamenting lost time, is expressed in poems like "Tragovi" (Traces), "Muzika" (Music), "Zbog tebe" (Because of You), as well as throughout her life, which is woven with dreams that contain both the sea and beauty.
Poets and writers are individuals who, through their talent and skill with written words, leave traces of their existence and their vision of the world in which they live, not only for their contemporaries but also for generations to come.
Poetry has the power, if the poet chooses to delve into their own self, to explore their soul, to remember their experiences of love and others, and to evoke all of that in others, in this case, the readers. As I read the poetry of Marina Matić, I asked myself whether poetry can be equated with science and morality. In my opinion, everything that adds charm, beauty, and allure to a poem would take away the authority of truth. Why? Because the cold, scientifically insensitive, and demonstrative nature of truth would strip poetry of its value and clash with the poet's imagination. Marina Matić has proven in her poetry that the principle of poetry, in simple terms, is the meaning of human striving for sublime beauty and represents the manifestation of that principle of elevating the soul, completely independent of the passion and cold scientific truth that nourishes reason but restricts the poet's world and their perception of the world in which they live. Passion is a natural phenomenon, even too natural not to introduce offensive and discordant tones into the realm of pure and unblemished beauty of poetic words. I mention this because all of the aforementioned elements can also be found in the poems of poetess Marina Matić.
The poetry of this poetess is a unique lyrical reflection whose perception of time always aligns with the rhythm of life that the poet experiences within the framework of time, and this is evident and felt in each of her poems. Reading the poetry of Marina Matić brings to mind the words of the ancient Greek philosopher Epictetus, the freed slave from Hierapolis, who said, "A man can find himself only in the solitude of his inner world." Poetess Marina Matić is a true believer in humanity, nature, and life. She believes in phenomena and things that are distant in origin but enduring and eternal; she believes in love, goodness, nobility, and in divine providence and apologetic concepts of faith. But she also believes in life and death. She believes in endurance because in the final journey towards the eternal source, nothing is lost, and everything endures in some form, somewhere—in life, in faith in God—and it all resurfaces in the form of spirituality and comes into contact with humankind. All of this is interwoven as a golden thread in Marina Matić's poetry, which, in creating her poems, gives birth to the beauty of words, evoked by humans and nature, and everything is permeated with emotions as the foundation of her spirituality, which, in fact, represents the greatest value in her poetic creation. All of her poems in this collection, as well as in the previous one, are imbued with reflections that often carry an elegiac tone, considering the diversity of themes that the poetess explores in her poetic creation.
In the end, it must be emphasized that the poetry collection "Sjaj tajne" (Glow of Mystery), as well as the previously published "Odraz duše" (Reflection of the Soul), is evidence that Marina Matić is a talented poet whose poetry is not meant for one-time use but for eternity.
