LAZAREVAC

LAZAREVAC

Mining town, town of miners.
Đenadić, Bešlagić, Becner, Blond,
Gajer, Cigler, Livada, Sabov,
Denda, Degent, Sarač...
Alongside Petrović, Marković,
Radovanović, Gajić...
They built the town, with their lives.

At the beginning of the last century,
it all started.
People came willingly or by force,
their stomachs led the way,
as always!
From Junkovac to Lazarevac...
They grew alongside the mine,
everyone except the villages that had to disappear,
slowly one after another...
The town grew chaotically,
and the mine moved further away,
leaving the town like a deserted island!

In some building entrances,
there are still plaques with various surnames
as witnesses of past times.

It's nearing half a century that I have been a witness.
And it could have been different.
