Everything Fades Away
Sand trickles from the hourglass of life,
threads strung together fray with time.
Atoms of strength scatter, once sturdy until yesterday,
everything slowly fades away and simply disappears.
And what does time convey, what remains!
Remain soul, will, faith, and hope,
insufficient to conquer life.
Helplessness knocks at the door, rings, screams mixed
with the silence of illusions, with unreal thinking
that we will always be able to do everything, before and after midnight.
And what does life give us, what remains!
Helplessness remains in the embrace, pain, memories
that hurt more or less, in this or that way.
There is no cure, recovery takes a long time,
gives less and less hope that strength will return.
Helplessness comes to us, painful, sad, hauntingly ugly.
Fingers clench spasmodically, grasping sparks
of bygone years, pencil, paper, and any moment
just to be noted, just to remind the weary mind
how free it once was, strolling through the wide road.
Heavier days are coming, must life always wound us?!
I know it won't give me an answer, I know, yet I seek it
while sand trickles from the hourglass of life,
threads strung together fray with time,
everything slowly fades away and simply disappears.
